Introduction to HELM Assessments

System Requirements

Windows 2000 or XP
(Other versions of Windows are not supported, Apple Macintosh is not supported.)
At least 20Mb of free hard disk space
Internet Explorer 5 or higher
32X CDROM or better.
(Alternatively, copy the contents of "pages/caa_cd_sep2006" folder from the CD to your hard disk and run "presenter.exe" from there.)

These stand-alone assessments do not require you to have any special software installed or have an internet connection.

Using the Assessments

After opening the test interface, you will be prompted to enter your name. After entering the details asked for, click the "start" button there and then select an assessment from the list presented. The assessment names refer to the corresponding HELM workbook section.

Click this link to see a typical screen shot from a CD based HELM assessment.

When an assessment is presented to you, read the instructions given first if you are not familiar with the format or the way the assessments are taken. As these are timed assessments, the countdown clock will start the moment you open an assessment but extra time has been included for you to read instructions.

Click only when you are ready to get all your answered questions marked. Until then, you can revisit the questions and change your answers. Only those answers stored when the assessment is submitted are marked. If you time out, those answers stored at that time will be marked.
Click the button to see instructions in a new window.

At the left side of the screen, all available questions are listed. The red arrow will show you which question is currently selected.
You can go to any question by clicking its icon in the question list.

Click the next button to go to the next question or click the button (if displayed) to move back. You do not need to answer a particular question before moving to the next or the previous question. You can answer them in any order you like.

Click the button to get your answers marked. The feedback (if available) will be available through a link once you have submitted the answers for marking.

Clicking on the button abandons the test and returns you to the available test list screen. No marks will be given or recorded.
